Do you want a future without hope?

According to the Money News website: The number of Britons with a net wealth of half a million pounds or over has risen to a total of around 820,000. (Source: Brewin Dolphin Wealth Management). The UK adult population stands at 33 million. This infers that only 2.48% of the adult population have a net worth of over half a million pounds. Arguably that means that "proper", seven figure millionaires are in the 1% bracket. That’s not a lot of people. So, what are the rest doing … ?

In October 2008 the average household debt, including mortgages was £59,630 (Source: Moneybasics UK.) Britain's personal debt as a whole is increasing by £1 million every 3.85 minutes. 

There were 27,087 individual insolvencies in England and Wales in the third quarter of 2008 on a seasonally adjusted basis. This was an increase of 8.8% on the previous quarter and a further increase of 4.6% on the same period a year ago. 

This was made up of 17,341 bankruptcies (which were up 12.1% on the previous quarter and up 9.5% on the corresponding quarter of the year before that). (Source: Insolvency.gov.uk - for one quarter year, i.e. 108,348 in a full year, pro-rata.) 

In 1935, 95% of the world's money was owned by 5% of the people. Hasn't changed a lot has it?

The simple reality of life is that most people in the UK are going to live most of their lives (if not all of it) in debt, and can look forward to an impoverished or an extremely difficult old age. And if you want to know why this has happened, let me tell you a little story about starting your own 'conventional' business.

Conventional Business - The blind leading the blind?

Not so long ago I visited my daughter's school. It was the sixth form open day in which the various courses available were being demonstrated. One of the subjects was business management. On this course the students had to set up a small business, usually a craft stall or similar, as an exercise in how to run a business. At the end of the presentation the presenter told the audience, and I quote, "The business occasionally makes a profit". I nearly choked on my coffee. She didn’t say this tongue-in-cheek, she meant it. So note this: for an A-level course in business management, students are receiving 'A' grades despite NOT making a profit! This is the kind of nonsense being taught today. And these pupils grow up to work in Banks and then give you advice on how to make money. And we all know where that got us. I don't think so.

Here’s a comment taken from an article in The Business magazine “The problem is that business schools, instead of creating leaders, are pumping out hoards of pumped-up administrators … matching ambitious administrators with large banks and consulting corporations.” 

From birth to death most people do not receive one microsecond's education in how to make money, or how to be financially independent, or how to be anything at all other than just another tax-paying job-seeker. Business schools or courses will show you how to manage a business but not how to make money.

People wanting to run a conventional business are fleeced by the banks, receive little useful training and it can be no surprise that up to 90% of those new business start-ups fail within the first year. After five years, 98% of new businesses have gone to the wall. The banks don't lose money on this - they just sell your house and take the money. They even take your money to avoid going bust themselves which is a nice trick if you can get away with it. And they can, it seems.

The fact is that most people have absolutely no idea how to change their financial circumstances, or personal circumstances for the better – or even believe such a thing is possible. But it IS possible. More than possible – IF you are just prepared to do something about it.

It doesn’t have to be like this…

Education is important, indeed vital. State education is about giving children a working knowledge of the basic foundations of science, English, history or languages. It is about what the 95% need to know about making a living in the world, and the educators, teachers and professors working in this area are doing their very best in a world that is changing too fast for classical education to keep up.

But the 95% only own 5% of all the world’s money. In order to become one of the 5% who cumulatively own 95% of the world’s wealth you will need to consider what they know and you don’t. In year 1, in class 1A, I finished 32nd in a class of 33 kids. (None of this “Oh, yes. Your son’s a Level Q subgroup 4-b achiever.” What??) No, I was second to last in a second to last school. I didn’t have a problem with this and I knew exactly what the score was. Then something happened.

I left that school first in all academic subjects and second in all practical subjects. So if you want your car fixing, do let me know. From last position to first position, almost overnight. I did not suddenly grow a brain, or extra intelligence. I had hit on the X-factor without knowing what it was. I then transferred to Grammar and then university where I completely screwed up. I had equally unknowingly switched to the dark side of the X-factor force. Everything started to go wrong.

In my subsequent life which was quite unpleasant at various times, I discovered that in everything I did right – those things which made my life or situation much better – I had unwittingly used this X-factor in a positive way. Similarly when everything went belly up, I finally realised I was using it in a negative way. Most of the time I didn’t even realise what was happening to me.

I hope you'll have noticed that this webpage is very low-key. Long - but low key. I have not deliberately tried to sell anything from this webpage, nor am I going to. It is to inform those people who can see beyond the usual, not to persuade people who can't.

This is NOT for people who are looking for four-leafed clovers. They will only waste their own time and block a space for someone who's serious about their future, not playing games with it. It is for people who have simply decided that they have had enough and are prepared to do what it takes to make it for themselves - Big Time. Little thinkers need not apply.

I have no idea how successful you will be during or after this course because that depends entirely on the strangest of things. It depends not so much on what you take on board, but on what you get rid of. A sinking ship needs to lose weight, not take on more coal.

This is about unlearning. You need to unlearn myths. You need to unlearn what well-meaning people have taught you since the day you were born. You need to jettison some personal baggage. If a cannonball tied to your ankles is dragging you down, ten lifejackets will only make you sink more slowly. Lose the cannonball.

Once you have unlearnt the old navigational chart, only then can you discover the new. If your current route has not given you the things you desire, then the fault is not you. The fault is the route. Change the map.

To move your ship confidently in the direction of your dreams requires three things. Get rid of ballast. Have the right map. Get a good crew.

The crew’s here, and we’ve got the map. But only you can get rid of your ballast - all that stuff that’s held you back. Success for Life UK will certainly show you how, but it’s you who must throw the ballast overboard.
